JPEG Image Viewer

My View

I want to install a simple image viewer on an old Windows 98 machine.

Something like the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer that comes with XP. I want
to be able to click an arrow to go from one image to the next in a folder.
Simple as that. No need for image manipulation.

I have downloaded DIMIN Image Viewer n5 but it seems too complicated for
what I want.

I was looking for something similar -- just an image viewer -- not an image
manager, just a viewer very much like XP's Picture and Fax Viewer.

The best I found is FuturixImager --> http://www.fxfp.com/imager/

Hard to believe it these days, but Bmap

<http://dana.ucc.nau.edu/~tsr22/apps/#bmap>

is only 200kB, can be used from the cmdline. Very good and free.

"A shmall Win95->XP image viewer. Supports: bmp, if, jpg, png, ico, jng,
koa, iff, lbm, mng, pbm, pcd, pcx, pgm, ppm, ras, tga, tif, wbmp, wap,
psd."

It has one interesting feature: View as Wallpaper (pre-view that is). At
least in v.5.01a (last version I tried)

Thanks but the website says it only runs on 2000, 2003 and XP. I need
W98.

I have it running on my Win98se system and it runs fine. I've been meaning
to email the author to suggest that they mention that it runs on Win98.

I always liked SlowView as a simple picture editor but it has now
sold out and is available only as $$$ware. Last freeware version:

Also Roman Komary's Immaginate is simple and fast. Right click to
get the commands. http://www.geocities.com/thexagon/Imaginate.html

I can think that IrfanView would do. I used it for a loooong time, and
it did its job (image browser, quick image retouching) very well.

(now I use XnView which is, IMHO, overkill for those that use it only as
image viewer)

I always found Irfanview great and offering tons of features.
However I find that navigating Irfanviews menus is not a fun task.
In fact several aspects of the user interface seem to need
improvements. But for free it is wonderful!

It is a great program all right. Just wish it had an MDI.
