Journal - adding contacts and old items

I'm fairly new to Outlook and very new to the Journal. I have a couple of questions

1 - having just set up the journal can I get it to look at my diary/emails for the last couple of months and recreate the journal entries for those items

2 - when I create a new contact, how do I get the journal to automatically record any future items

2. Go into the properties for Journal and enable the tracking of activities
for the new contact.
