joining a network

i have just configured my computer to work as a domain
controller for a simple network that i want to make using
windows 2000 advanced server.i have also bought a normal
wired switch to do the connections. the first task was
done successfully but am trying to add other computers to
the network and its not working. my laptop is running on
xp pro and i cant make it a member of the domain coz the
message is "cannot locate a domain controller for the
domain".
can u help please...

This can occur due to DNS misconfiguration. All servers and workstations
should specify *only* the internal AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in
their network settings. The AD-integrated DNS server should be set up with
forwarders to your ISP's DNS servers for external resolution, and/or use
root hints.
