Join computer to domain

is there any way to save and restore a user acount on a
windows xp workstations on a 2000 domain.

i just upgraded my existing 2000 exchange server to a new
faster computer. i have active dirctory setup and put all
the work station user acouts in and they work fine. but
the only way i can find to join the computer to the domain
(so the computer shows up in active directory) is to go
to each individual workstation and ether drop it to a
workgroup and back to the domain or to run the network id
wizerd but in both cases i lose the existing user profile
on the xp workstations. i have it setup to have user
porfiles reside on the local computer not the server.

this is the error out of even viewer.

The computer xxxxxx tried to connect to the server
\\xxxxxx using the trust relationship established by the
xxxxx domain. However, the computer lost the correct
security identifier (SID) when the domain was
reconfigured. Reestablish the trust relationship.

is it posible to reestablish the trust relationship
without rejoining the computer to the domain and losing
the curent user profile or is there a way to backup the
curent user profile and reload it so everybody dosn't
lose all of there presonal seting.

thanks for any thoghts

Just go to where the profiles are stored (usually
c:\Documents and Settings\%username% and rename the
folder to %username%2 or something. Then you can do
whatever you want with the machine and when you are ready
for the person to log back on, just rename the their
profile folder back to %username% and it will use that
when they log on. If you still have problems with the
SID, you can always do a SID lookup and change it in the
profile when they log on.
