Jimmy White's 2 - Cueball

S

sdavis1970

I know this is an old game, but I've recently bought a copy on th
Sold Out label and I'm having trouble getting it to run

I use WinXP (obviously) and my graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce F
5700LE. I've made sure the drivers for the card are up to date, I'
running DirectX 9.0c and I'm still having problems

During installation the message "DirectX does not support the Window
version on the system", although I can get round this by using th
Program Compatibility Wizard during install

Having done that, when I try to run the game I get a message sayin
that "q.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I get this message whether I try and run the program using th
Compatibility Wizard or not

Can anyone help me run this game please

I have screen dumps of the errors, plus my latest dxdiag.txt shoul
anyone feel the urge to take a look

Cheers

Hi sdavis,

Instead of using the Wizard, try using this method instead.
To run an installed program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode,
first right click the program and "Send To..." / Desktop (create shortcut).

1.. Right click on the shortcut to the program.
2.. Click on Properties.
3.. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4.. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
a.. Windows 95
b.. Windows 98
c.. Windows NT 4
d.. Windows 2000
5.. Under Display settings, check mark the mode that you think that is best:
a.. Run in 256 colors.
b.. Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
c.. Disable visual themes.

Click on Apply.Click on Ok.Double click on the program.

Of course, let's not forget to check for any patches or updates for that game.
A good place to find them is: www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a

If you'd like to learn more information about compatibility mode, you can click the
link in the Compatibility tab that reads "Learn more about program compatibility",
or watch this Application Compatibility Power Point Presentation:

....

I'm sure XP will not let this happen but when installing on Win98
this game insists on installing DirectX 7 without asking for permission
first. Damn annoying if you have just installed a new O/S, DX9 and
then Cueball overwrites it. I have to make sure I install Cueball first.
I doubt this could happen in compatibility mode though.
