well i`ve marked all the biois info down against the settings in the motherboard booklet and noted where there are differences, a bit of advice please, on the section dram timing settings the auto configuration setting was set to standard on my pc, the booklet shows it as optimized, should i change it and was exactly would it do it i did ???

I have mine set to 'auto' and it is fine ... I would use standard to test out any potential memory issues as it is usually a fail safe setting and use the optimised setting to push it a bit.

Set it to auto.

Thanks for that, under the auto configuration button i have three options, manual,standard (presently set to this) and optimized (shown in the motherboard booklet) which one do i plump for or doesn`t it matter, i do not have an auto option, only to open these 3 options

ah, well, this is where things can get a little tricky ... I would leave it on Standard for now but can you tell me what it does say the RAM is set to ... there should be a bunch of numbers ... and can you tell me what RAM you are using.

You see how this is difficult to explain but would be a 30 second job to do if I had the PC in front of me.

the ram thats installed is 512mb, and are the bunch of numbers you are asking for the numbers under the dram timing settings?

For anybody that is interested that may be suffering similar problems i changed the bios battery which didn`t seem to solve anything, one of the many times it disconnected it also locked up the router which happened again on a couple of occasions which pointed me in that direction, i`ve now got a new bt 210 voyager adsl router and software which seems to have cracked the problem so it looks like it was either a problem with the original voyager 105 adsl router or the software, for your information the original router was 18 months old.
