Jet 4.0 Service Packs

P

Peter

I have just downloaded the Jet 4 Service Pack 8 for
Win2000 and when loading it I get the message I need to
have at least ServicePack 3 installed.

I have searched the Microsoft site for the Jet 4 SP 3, but
cannot find any service packs except SP 7 and/or 8.

Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of the Jet 4 SP3
file for windows 98 and 2000?

Also, can anyone explain why Microsoft would specify a
specific file to be required for a Service Pack and then
in their wisdom, remove all access to the specified file?

Thanks

Odd; my understanding is that Jet 4 SP3 should have been installed with
the Windows 2000 operating system. I'm not sure how you manage to be
without it. Regardless, see if this KnowledgeBase article has the links
and procedures you need:

Hi Peter,

I'm not positive, but I think the message may have referred to SP3 for Windows 2000, not
Jet. Here is a link for more information on Win. 2000 SP3:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320853

In any case, if you install SP2 for Windows 2000, it includes Msjet40.dll, version
4.0.4431.3. Looking up this version number in KB 239114
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;239114) indicates that you will
be at Jet SP5 after installing Windows 2000 SP2. That should take care of this error
message, if it was related to the Jet SP level.

Here is more information on Windows 2000 SP2:

Jet 4.0 SP8 requires Windows 2000 SP3 minimum. I have seen others asking
this same question...maybe the wording of the dialog is confusing/bad?

That makes a lot of sense. Good read.
