SOmeone!! please!!!! where is the 800 number to call microsoft. This computer
will not allow installation of Java, the java website does not address what's
specifically the problem, they offered no support despite repeated e-mails. I
performed a bandwith test and even the results are not displayed as they
should be due to the fact that I dont have Java, which I cant download due to
there's an issue with the PC. It (PC) has been unable to diagnose a problem.
HELP!!

Denny, thank you for your reply.
There is paragraph that tells you that if there is an error a yellow bar
will appear at the top telling you what's wrong. No yellow bar appears for
me, only a sentence near the middle of the page saying "We have encountered
an issue with your PC and the software was not loaded properly" It also says
that it may be that I dont have the system requirements, which I do. Then it
says that if that's not the problem, then most other issues can be solved
using their Help and FAQ section. They elaborate on many troubleshooting
issues, but not on mine nor what the message tells me. They give you specific
error messages that would come up in the "yellow bar", which does not appear
for me.
This sounds like something that I need to talk to a rep about. Is there an
800#??

Thanks

Hi

I doubt that MS will help you with a Sun Java problem!! Don't you see the
bar at the top of the screen asking if you want to install an ActiveX file?
Without installing that file, you won't be able to install Java.

There isn't a bar asking me about the ActiveX, no. I must mention that
yesterday our phone line went out. I called the phone co. who is also the
ISP. They are the ones that led me through several web-based bandwidth tests.
There were icons that according to them I should be seeing, but I wasn't.
Also the test results weren't displayed properly. I mentioned to the rep this
Java problem and described just what I told you. After tweaking stuff on his
end, we fixed the phone line, and regarding the Java the best accord was that
there is obviously a problem with the PC not letting me load the software. I
tried turning off the firewalls temporarily to load Java, but to no avail.
He is the one that suggested to contact yall to figure out what's the deal.
Java has not replied to my email asking for advice.

Tried that also. After downloading to desktop, opening installer, command the
firewall to allow the application to access the web, a window comes up. It
reads
"The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid windows installer package".
See what I mean? 800# anyone..?

Yes, Please, I can relate!!! For at least a month I've encountered the same difficulties, exactly the same error message, when trying to install Java Runtime Environment from the U.S. Postal Service site, of all places! I'd just like to be able to use their Click&Ship feature but can't without Java Technology! I've tried all sources, Java, Microsoft, USPS, knowledge bases, internet searches and nothing adds up to who is responsible or a fix to this problem. I have deducted that it has to do with SP2 being installed on my xp home edition yet I'm afraid to uninstall this SP2. Hope there's help to this out there. >

all I wanted was an 800 support # which I still dont have, and the reason for
me trying to contact MS so insistently is because I've already been told by
several others who I described the problem to that the Pc is faulty, not the
software. Java cant install because the Pc is the hurdle.
So you tell me MS probably cant help me. Java wont reply to my emails.
Should I junk this nealry new PC along with the XP OS we bought and get a MAC?

I thought this was support

Olivia Marie, good luck. You can read all of the postings between Will Denny
and myself. Make of it what you may, cuz all I got was a link to another site
which coincidentally required Java and ActiveX file, and when prompted to
install it, Windows gave me the same error as when I try to download Java
from the Java Website.
Now you give this support a try :)

Hi

I've just posted some 800 numbers. I'm not in the US, so you'll have
contact MS as you can - sorry, I can't help any further.

Thanks. Thanks for your response. I have read all your postings. I've been
researching all this time. I officially quit. This is too much bother. I
think this is all due to a "legal" thing between Java and Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/faq.asp. I happened to stumble on
"fixes" to these problems; downloadable files from places on the internet
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA012735/vm_en.html. However, I'm skeptical
to try this on my own. Maybe this is all common knowledge but it was sure
hard to find. I've concluded it's wasted enough of my time and that
Microsoft, Java and The U.S. Post Office don't have alternate methods
available for this technology yet and are passing the buck. Over and Out.

Dear Olivia Marie,

it seems that I am finally going to get the help that I was looking for.

http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6794

Above is the link that I was given, and a wonderful lady by the name of
Kelly Cheng over at MS support replied with suggested courses of action. I
think that they will be able to help you also. I guess you can copy and paste
the link into your email utility if it doesnt become a clickable link on its
own.
