Java runtime

Doesn't win2000 and winXP include java runtime environment by default? I
have bumped into few machines without JRE in my work place. I don't know why
it's missing on some computers but not all. Perhaps the former admin has
removed them. I just don't know why someone would do this? Security maybe?

Java is Sun, not MS. It's a court thing where MS can't
provide Java anymore. You need to install it from
http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Are you saying in some Windows 2000s you have looked at msjava.dll is not in C:\WINNT\system32?

Oh NOT Windows XP. You were given wrong information in that regard. Yes Windows 2000 no Windows XP. But msjava runtme CAN be installed in XP with the appropriate hotfix.
