Java RunTime Environment

Hi, in my add/remove programs section, i noticed i have 2
programs installed by the name of Java 2 RunTime
Environment.

The first one is version 1.40 and the second one is
version 1.4.2

The first one is only 1.73 Mb whereas the second one is
224 Mb. It says it is used very rarely.

What is this program and what is it supposed to do?

I would uninstall both and go to Java.com and download the latest J2RE just
to be on the safe side. It enables you to view Java applets on web pages -
you need it since the demise of Microsoft's own Java VM (Virtual Machine)
