Java JRE Newest version ?

Checked for updates through CCleaner and found Filehippo is offering a new
version of Java Runtime Environment on feb. 25th - 1.5.0.11 ( notice the
number). Now Filehippo is calling JRE version 1.5.0.4 - 5-6-7-8-9-10 and 1.60
old versions.
This has to be checked further but it appears that the latest version 1.60
that the numbers have dropped back down to the 1.5's. I was having no
problems with 1.6 but i have read that there were problems with some people.
I'll check back latter if anyone finds out more info. Enjoy your day

Hi Ron,

I see what you mean about the Filehippo.com download site, they need to fix
that. Update_11 for Sun Java version 1.5.0 certainly does not supercede
version 1.6.0, it only supercedes Build_10 of version 1.5.0

I wouldn't pay any attention to filehippo's site, go directly to the source
when looking for Sun Java Releases:

Latest Sun Java Released Version 1.6.0
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Latest Sun Java Update for Version 1.5.0 is Update 11
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp

All previous Sun Java Versions

Ron, the only thing 'wrong' with Filehippo is that they list updates in
chronological order of release. JRE 1.6 was released before JRE 1.5.0_10.

The real answer here is that there is a 'bifurcation' in Java JRE. They
have released JRE 1.6 *and* they are still maintaining/updating JRE
1.5.0_x line.

Yes, .11 is the newest version of the 1.5 series. 1.6 still has no updates,
and I haven't had any trouble with it.

Why would you look at FileHippo to find out about Java versioning? Try
java.com.

Thanks for the help but as you did see what was said there would make you
think that there is a newer version for 1.6. Bill when you check for an
update for CCleaner, and there is an update you are transfered to filehippo
or an alternate download site to install, and i just use this page to see
what new versions are being offered and then I'll go to the real sites. You
get to see a few updates in one shot. Thanks again for your help Donald and
occam. Ron

java.com is chronically late with Java updates. They still do not offer
Java RTE 6.0 (1.6), but they *do* offer 1.5 update 11 now.

http://java.sun.com/ is the site to go for the newest downloads.

P.S. JRE 1.5 update 11 was released in January, so it's not very new.

I agree about the lateness. However, .11, as far as I can see, is primarily
of importance to Vista users--it doesn't seem to have many security-related
fixes.

I do like the fact that the machines I've put 1.6 on haven't seen any of the
recent updates.
