I am trying to access a speedtest
(speedtest.frontiernet.net) on my home page. Does not
work. Frontier tech sup. says there is a problem with
java applets and that I should contact Microsoft XP for
remedy. I don't have any experience with java applets???
I have cleared temporary files from browers ... no affect.
Can someone please advise me how to fix problem

This might be the reason:

On Windows XP, Internet Explorer does NOT include support
for Java Applets by default!

You used to be able to download the Microsoft Virtual
Machine (VM for short) for Java, but because of legal
dispute between Sun Microsystems and Microsoft, this is
now not possible.

However, you CAN obtain Sun's version of the Java Runtime
Environment, at http://java.sun.com and install it. It
will integrate with Internet Explorer and allow you to
run Java Applets in Internet Explorer.

Using Sun's JRE is recommended even if you do have the
Microsoft VM, as the Microsoft VM is very out of date and
Java Appplets may run unreliably under it.
