Java and Terminal Services

Joe

Good Day,

Has anyone install Java (for the browser) on their terminal servers? If so,
how did you accomplish it? Many of the web sites we access required a
java-enabled browser.

TIA

SUN Java, you mean? Yes, shouldn't be a problem.
Put the server in install mode, then install Java.
While still in install mode, configure it with the Java Plugin in the
Control Panel. Make sure that you disable automatic updates.

Thats right Vera, Sun Java. When you mention to configure it within the
Java Plug-in in Control Panel, is the only setting you recommend is to turn
off Automatic Updates?

Thanks Vera!

That depends on your needs.

We have a number of 3rd party web-based applications, some of them
require SUN java, some others require Microsoft Java VM.
To make sure that each application can use the Java it needs, we
always uncheck the button on the "Webbrowser" tab (uncheck "Make
Java Plug-in your default web browser Java component"). If you
don't have applications which use Microsoft Java, you can leave
this option checked.

We check on the "Standard" tab the option "Hide system window" and
uncheck "Show Java in taskbar" (all options in this post translated
from Swedish, so the wording can be a bit different).

You're welcome, Joe!
I've never forgotten the day that a kind soul at the other side of
the globe helped me to manage my first VAX VMS server, way back in
the early 90's. I'm glad to be able to do the same now.
