I've tried everything--what abt log files?

I've read everything I can here on hit counters in order to get them to work,
even following your previous advice to a T, and they still won't count! My
ISP doesn't have a clue. They always worked before!

In the code it shows: <!--webbot bot="HitCounter" i-image="5"
I-ResetValue="0" I-Digits="0" U-Custom="images/bd.gif" --></p>
<p align="center">

On another post you told someone to use log files to determine actual
visits. How do I do that?

PLEASE tell me how to get my hit counters working or else how to use log
files. I am getting desperate! Thank you.

Did you try:

On your local web: Delete the hit counter.
Save
Publish to the web server without the counter.
Then, add the hit counter back in on the local web and Re-publish (set the
counter to whatever you want)

or you can edit counter on the live server.

but according to your orig post...maybe there is something wrong with your
host.

Thanks for answering. Yes, I did that. In fact, I just now did everything you
said, even resetting the hit counter. Then I went to site to make a hit, went
back and refreshed my live web, but it hadn't budged. It's the same for the
other hit counters I reinserted. I'll contact my ISP again. This all happened
after they had an email outage. Maybe they need to reinstall the FP Server
Extensions, or whatever.

Have your host check and make sure the _private folder and the hit counter
info within' have the appropriate permissions.

Actually the entire hit counter code looks like this:
( note this one uses a custom image )

<!--webbot bot="HitCounter" i-image="5" i-digits="0"
PREVIEW="&lt;strong&gt;[Hit Counter]&lt;/strong&gt;" u-custom="images/95.gif"
i-resetvalue="0" startspan --><img
src="_vti_bin/fpcount.exe/?Page=index.html|Custom=images/95.gif" alt="Hit Counter"><!--webbot
bot="HitCounter" i-checksum="52196" endspan --></p>

I'll do that and get back with you. He did do something eariler and said "try
it now" but they still wouldn't count.

I made a "test page" with a custom image on it and the code looks like this:

<!--webbot bot="HitCounter" i-image="0" I-ResetValue="0" I-Digits="0"
U-Custom --></p>
<p align="center"> </p>

I've relayed your info to my ISP. I'll get back with you. I hope this gets
fixed.

I'm about ready to go crazy. I removed the hit counters, republished, then
went to my remote site and added a hit counter. Please answer this for me:
when I place a hit counter on the remote site, is it supposed to have the x
on the .cnt file? (i.e., "do not publish"?) I know when I place a hit counter
on my local site it always has the x, but I read it is supposed to have the x
so it doesn't overwrite the one on the remote. My ISP told me again "try it
now." It still isn't counting. My code looks like this now:

<!--webbot bot="HitCounter" i-image="5" I-ResetValue="0" I-Digits="0"
U-Custom="images/bd.gif" startspan --><img
src="_vti_bin/fpcount.exe/esn-recovery/?Page=default.htm|Custom=images/bd.gif"
alt="Hit Counter"><!--webbot bot="HitCounter" i-checksum="45022" endspan
--></p>

Any other suggestions besides completely giving up on having hit counters??

It didn't make a difference. I'll see if my ISP can try anything else. Thanks
for your help on very puzzling situation.

We finally got the hit counters to count!! My ISP deleted my live web and
created a blank web for me. Then I republished everything and they now work!!
If anyone has tried everything and nothing works, I suggest this. (Make sure
you have your web files saved first on your local machine.) Thanks for
everyone's suggestions.
