I've given up and uninstalled Defender

Hopefully, when the next beta comes out I'll reinstall. I've tried to delete
the current definitions, I've upgraded installer to 3.1, I've installed the
install cleaner, deleted, reinstalled... probablly spent about 10 hours on
this - and .. it's not worth it. I couldn't get it to update even though
windows update was downloading and installing about 4 times a day. When I
used the install cleaner... it screwed up my office updates (even though i
removed defender and definitions only).
I've tried virtually every suggestion made on this forum - in both the
update and the installation sections.

I've restored my pc many times. I normally can get through these things,
and don't like giving up, but here's one to Microsoft... they win. Score
Defender 1, Bob 0.
Does anyone know when the next beta is coming out? Will Microsoft work on
this issue? Seems like there are a lot of users, like me, with trouble.

If anyone can suggest a method, fire away. Best wishes to all of those
corageous enough to stick with this.
Thanks

I can assure you that they are working on the issue of difficulty getting
updates.

I went through the same living hell; spent over ten hours as well. Here is
what finally worked for me:

1) Run CCleaner to clean the registry, etc and turn off active Trend Micro
virus scanning (I was doing this before but this step alone did not provide
the fix).

2) Unintall my Yahoo browser and everything else related to yahoo. I got
this idea when I saw in another post that Yahoo can be a problem I initially
did not think this fix would apply to me since I was signing onto Internet
Explorer with microsoft.com as my homepage when all the problems were going
on.

In the end, I got great service from Microsoft via email and Steve Dodson's
posts below. You can see my May 4, 2006 response to Steve below in this
forum.

Bob - feel exactly the same as you do - but this is just a complete waste of
time. Met all the requirements. Installed, nothing. Updated installed,
uninstalled, reinstalled nada. Was using MS Antispyware fine but defener has
some serious issues and no fixes.

Bob guess what? I got it installed. I am running Windows Xp SP2 and meet all
the requirements for Defender but needed to install Windows Installer 3.1
which I did and still could not complete install of Defender. So I checked
for any/all updates for Windows XP on MS updates site and installed those and
then ran the Defender install again and it worked with no problems! Maybe you
could try that!

In case it helps the updates were KB913446 and KB893805v2 (looks like an
update to Windows Installer itself). Hope that helps.

I am having similar trouble. Is it still possible to get defender beta 1.
If so where? Does it have current and accurate updates?
