iTunes operation via USB keyboard

Whenever iTunes is in the background, I lose the wonderful skip, play,
pause functionality from my USB keyboard (I've tried MS and Dell HID
devices). Any suggestions? I'd love to just minimize it to the tray
and be able to skip songs when I'm not in the mood for 'em.

You need to use a player that is compatible with your keyboard.

To be clear, you're suggesting that this is functionality that iTunes
won't give me?
