be opened. verify the package exists and that you can access it. or contact
the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer

Maybe its corrupted, have tried downloading it again and reattempt
installation? If that does not work, try disabling User Account Control
temporarily and try installing again.

Type cmd in the Start Search box above the Start Orb. When cmd.exe appears at
the top of the Start Menu, right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"
(elevated command prompt).

Type:

regsvr32 vbscript.dll (note the space between 32 and vb)

and press Enter.

Then try installing iTunes again.

Did you right click on the downloaded file selected Properties and pressed the
Unblock button and the Apply button?

Have you also tried installing by right clicking on the iTunes setup file and
selecting "Run as Administrator"?

Most install/uninstall problems are due to remnants of older versions and
install/uninstall debris blocking normal install processes. Until you
completely clean your system of any older versions, broken install or
incomplete uninstall debris, you won't be able to install a new version or
program. Vista uninstaller does a very poor job of removing all parts of a
program. Sometimes a proprietary removal tool can help, but even these will
leave blocking files and registry entries on your system.

You can do a manual uninstall with the help of Windows Installer CleanUp
Utility, but the best way to get rid of all remnants of an older program,
failed download and install, or failed uninstall is using Smarty Uninstaller.
This program will scan your system and list all the programs on your
computer, including "broken" parts of programs. It will then run the
program's uninstaller (if present), and then rescan to list any pieces left
on your system. Clicking Cleanup will then remove all traces of your program
and installation of the new or update program can then proceed normally. You
can access Smarty Uninstaller, a number of proprietary removal tools and
instructions for doing a manual uninstall at the tutorial link below.

According to the suggested sequence in Repair Vista Options, once having done
a Virus/Malware scan/fix. Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter, and
driver/application updates, the next step is to run a Check Disk scan/fix.
The next step would be to try a System Restore or Complete PC Restore to a
date before you started having this problem. If that doesn't solve your
problem, run Vista DVD Startup Repair. The links in the tutorial detail how
to do each step.

Since you're problem may involve corrupt system files (including Windows
Installer), running System File Check may fix this for you or at least
identify any corrupt system files that it could not repair in CBS.log. If
necessary, remaining corrupt system files can be replaced with good files
from your Vista Install DVD. Failing this and a registry cleaner scan/fix,
you may have to consider some form of Vista Reinstall.

Hi Megstu,

I am experiencing the exact same problem that you reported in late dec. Did
you ever get it solved, and if so how? I've been at this for a few hours
now and I have tried everything on this thread except the last few steps to
re-install Vista. Before taking such a drastic step, I'd like to know if it
actually worked or whether the solution lies elsewhere.

Thnx

Cant hear my music

When I first got my computer brand new, The first thing I did was to try to
instal Itunes. I get the same message, so I dont beleive reloading everything
is going to help. I wish apple would address this problem except I dont think
its their problem... Because the next program I tried to install was google
earth, then quicktime, all with the same error messages..
I have run as administator, and messed with cmd, nothing works... its pretty
lame that I had a 500 dollar computer that ran my Ipod and my new HPDV9000
wont.
It has been 5 months and still no tunes earth or quicktime.
