My Windows XP was installed as an upgrade from Windows
98. Everything now works fine, except that I have
installed Its Deductible, and it won't run. I get run
time error 372, "Failed to load control 'inet' from
msinet.ocx. Your version of msinet.ocx may be outdated.
Make sure you are using the version of the control that
was provided with your application." I checked the file,
and it shows a 2002 create date, but shows it was
modified in 1997. I uninstalled and reinstalled
ItsDeductible. While it was uninstalled, I searched for
msinet.ocx, and it wasn't there any more. Have run all
downloadable updates from Microsoft, except for one which
fails to load, "Microsoft.net framework version 1.1".
Intuit's tech help insists that a Microsoft upgrade is
required.

Hi, Bob. Your program "It's Deductible" is an old one, not designed for
Windows XP and it apparently didn't do well in the upgrade. You should
uninstall it from Add/Remove programs and reinstall it from your
original software. It would probably be a good idea to check with the
program's mftr. to see if there is an updated version for XP, although
the older version might work. If it will not install properly, XP does
have a way to emulate older operating systems - look in your XP Help &
Support for "Compatibility Mode".

Good luck,

Malke

For what it's worth, ItsDeductible Basic is now up to version 7.x. Since
ItsDeductible has been purchased by Intuit, support -- particularly at this
time of year -- is hard to come by. The built-in help file is almost
nonexistent and the online FAQs are not far behind. There is no email
support. Your best bet for ItsDeductible support is to do an online chat
at https://support.turbotax.com/chat/default.asp Be prepared to wait for a
while (but you might get lucky).

If you right click on the shortcut to launch the program and choose
properties, one of the tabs should be called "Compatibility". From here,
you can set the program to try to run as it would in Windows 95. It sounds
like the problem may be that you are files are more up to date than the
older program knows how to deal with. Compatibility mode might allow the
component to lie to the program and pretend to be the older version it
needs.
