Icon is envelope with small phone attached. How do you open this message
without losing it?

If you see Outlook's tray icon, and opposed to your Subject header, you HAVE
retrieved that item from the mail server.

Perhaps you need to check what view you are using in the Inbox (or other)
folder. Perhaps you are using a [customized] view that hides "read"
messages. When you select the folder, what view are you using for that
folder?
