You may have something we call a codec error. These are files from old
versions of certain types of software that interfere with Movie Maker.

You can download a program I wrote called "Rename Codec" from the downloads
section of my website. You first use it to identify known problem codecs
and then rename them. After this you use MovieMaker and hopefully it wilol
function properly. Whether or not it solves your problem, you must run
"Rename Codec" again so that you can restore the codecs to their original
names. My program takes care of all the hard work...you just press a
button.

I've had the same problem since I downloaded the last
audio update. Tried the same things you did with the same
results.

The program still edits and plays video fine, just shuts
down as soon as I select a transition effect.

I'm glad someone else is having the same
issues........sorry I don't know the fix.
