Issues with opening DBF (dBase) file in Excel

Hello people,

I'm pretty sure this question has been asked before a couple of times, but I
cannot find information on this, so please forgive my ignorance:

When I open a DBF-file into Excel, it simply opens right away without any
issues at all. However, all special characters from the DBF-file (e.g. "ë")
have been transformed to something different that cannot be used in Excel.

How can I easily convert this back or even better avoid getting them by
opening a DBF-file ?

Many thanks in advance for any reply !

I'd begin by running charmap.exe Character Map, and seeing if the font
you're using in Excel contains those characters. If not, switch to another
font that does.
