Converting DBF Files to Excel

I am running Office 2000 and Windows XP. This is a new computer that
replaced an old Windows 98 system.

On my old computer, whenever I received an e-mail with a DBF file as an
attachment I could simply double-click the attachment and it would
automatically open up in Excel.

On the new system, when I double-click the attachment I get a series of
error messages indicating that the file cannot be found.

If I save the attachment to disk I am always able to open it in Excel,
however it is a hassle to have to save the DBF file and then manually open
it. I would prefer to simply be able to double-click the attachment to open
it.

The DBF file type is associated with Excel, but something tells me that the
commands are screwed up.

Any ideas how I can solve this problem? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Make sure that in Excel the setting Ignore other Applications, under Tools,
Options, General, is not selected.

I did see that from some other postings and made sure it wasn't.

I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't a problem with Outlook Express. I used
Outlook instead and was able to double-click and open the attachments just
fine. Might there be some issue with Outlook Express? The error messages
relate to the location of the temporary files.

There is a setting under Tools, Options Security about not letting
attachments launch...

It's called security which is a good thing. Allowing it is possible through
security settings in either Outlook Express or Outlook which are default set
as 'restricted' zone which relates to the systems security settings,
disallowing most executables from performing possibly dangerous and unwanted
results. Live with the 'hassle' and be glad! It is much more of a 'hassle'
after your personal information is stolen or compromised. Unfortunately,
there are bad people doing bad things to those unaware and / or unprotected
computer users. Be aware - be very aware!!
