Issues with IEEE1394 IP connection

Hi,

recently I tried to connect two PCs running Windows XP Pro SP2 via a
Firewire cable. However, I cannot determine whether there is really a
physical connection since the status box shows always "connected" no
matter whether there is anything connected to the Firewire port or not.

But the main problem is the following message box that pops up when I
try to "repair" the IEEE1394 network connection:

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following
action cannot be completed. TCP/IP is not enabled for the connection.
Cannot proceed."

Of course, TCP/IP _is_ enabled and a correct static IP etc. is
configured.

In the end, I couldn't get it to show any IP address in the status box.

Any hints? The problem is the very same on both computers. I searched
the internet for a solution, but most people seem to have only minor
problems.

Thx,
Johannes

The network connection for the 1394 adapter is probably corrupted. Go
to Device Manager, remove the "1394 Net Adapter", and click Action |
"Scan for hardware changes" to re-install it. That will automatically
create a new network connection.
