I have WinXP with SP1 installed. Everytime I disconnect
from my ISP (56k dial up account) it tries to reconnect
after about 2-3 seconds. This has only started to occur
over the past few weeks, nothing has changed in my
configuration, hardware or software. I have an up to date
Anti-Virus program so I've ruled out a virus.

Have tried disabling the Remote Auto Access Connection
Manager Service but this didn't help.

Any ideas, this is a very annoying problem.

Is [Dial whenever a network connection is not present] selected?
(Internet Properties > Connections tab > Dial-up & VPN settings)

Bee.

In IE click on tools, internet options, connection tab and put a tick in
never dial a connection, you may have to do this several times as it can be
contrary.

try spybor from safer-networking.org and update and scan on
easy and see if you are infected with spyware.

Have you ruled out phone home spyware? eg anti-virus often does not deal
with that.
