I did a search on the word "isearch" and found several
discussions on this virus/trojan program. The best one
was a thread started by "MacKenrick" in the General
Security Discussion forum at the time 4/2/2004 12:45:45
PM. Mike Burgess is a real expert on this. I couldn't
download HijackThis.exe from http://tools/radiospace.com
because the virus blocked me from visiting any security
websites! Fortunately, I have another computer and was
able to download the program and then moved it to my
infected machine.
I ran regedit and made the registry changes that Burgess
recommended. After I did a scan with HijackThis.exe, I
killed off everything that mentioned "isearch". I also
went into the C:\WINDOWS\system32 directory and found a
load of .dll files that all had the same date and time as
the mtwirl.dll file, which I discovered was associated
with the virus. I deleted all of these files. I can't
delete mshelper.dll, which also has the same date.
The bottom line is that "isearch" is gone from my web
browser! I can now navigate to the security websites.
