I just bought a brand new COMPAQ laptop computer with XP
already installed.

On power-up -- get a fatal "Isass.exe -- System Error"
window and cannot proceed.

COMPAQ support tells me that it's a MicroSoft problem
with no known fix. I've been told that I have to totally
restore my hard disk and totally reload everything on
each time it shows up.

I can't believe I will have to keep doing this over a
Microsoft problem!!!

Help.........Al

Hi,

It may be a Microsoft file, but the problem is caused by the way Compaq sets
up your system with sysprep. They need to obtain this hotfix for you:

You Cannot Log On to Windows XP After Running the OOBE [Q316134]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316134

Exercise your warranty and tell them you will be returning it unless they
do. There is no need for you to have to tolerate this issue when they can
obtain the fix.
