isapnp missing or corrupt message

I am getting this message when booting up XP.

"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
System32\drivers\isapnp.sys."

I followed the instructions in the Microsoft article about this, replacing
the file using the recovery console and it actually worked. I was able to
use the computer for a few weeks then exactly the same problem happened
again. I replace the file again and it work again only to have the same
problem again after a month.

I rebuild the PC after that and it worked fine for a few weeks then get
exactly the same error I had before.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

After viewing this issue you speak and the reoccurence,
it seems to me that although Microsoft doesn't mention a
different root cause, it's my opinion you need to sweep
your system first for spywae/malware and or viruses. I
suggest the Microsoft beta antispyware program under the
Microsoft downloads section. The attempt to replace the
corrupt or missing file.

You may need to enter your BIOS and select your CD drive to start first.

Sorry I didnt read your post close enough the first time about this being a
repeat.
I dont know how much faith I would put in this but this link talks about it
being a bad ram stick. I cant say if this is true or not.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for replying, It turned out that the problem is the RAM. After I
removed one of the memory DIMMS it worked without having to replace the
isapnp file.

Thanks again,

Seanmig
