Hi, all

I have an ISA AWE32 SoundBlaster card and am wondering if it's the source of
my troubles.

When I play .mp3 files, I sometime I hear crackling sounds, dropouts and
sometimes a system crash. I can't decide if it's the SB driver or hardware
or Motherboard (Asus P2B, PII, 440BX chipset). The sofware used is
RealPlayer or Windows Media Player in both Windows 98 and XP (I have a dual
setup).

Has anyone had problems with their ISA soundcard? If so, please leave a
note. Any and all replies are certainly appreciated.

Probably an IRQ sharing issue. Check your BIOS settings, particularly
the IRQ the card is using and set it for ISA instead of auto.

No, not crossposted, you multiposted and that's not a good idea. People
reading those groups will see your posts as not read. If you had
crossposted then the message would appear as already read for them after
they read it in one group.

XP doesnt like ISA. XP is designed for PCI.

I had such a card on the machine when XP was installed as an upgrade and
it worked OK. It has now gone in another, old, machine that I have
installed XP on, and seems to work fine, though it needed a search in
the drivers list of Add hardware to find the right ones.

XP does not "like" PnP ISA cards. It does support ISA card but you need to
configure the "standard" drivers yourself.
