Bad pop through the sound system every 32 seconds. Where's it coming from?

If anyone can help me with this one, I'd be truly grateful.

System is:
Mobo: ASUS TUV4X motherboard, (VIA 694T chipset) BIOS version 1005
(latest), P-3 1GHz, 512MB RAM.
Soundcard: Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy 2
OS: Windows XP, fully patched to latest revision. All BIOS files and
firmwares are updated to the latest rev.

Every 32 seconds, this system puts out a very short and loud "pop" out
of the speakers if the system is either playing music or a .wav file.
If the system is not playing a sound, there is no pop.

I have gone through the system very carefully turning off all
applications and checking all the hardware, and nothing seems to make
any difference. I have replaced the Audigy 2 soundcard with an older
Audigy version #1 card, and it makes no difference.

The ONLY thing I've tried that makes the popping stop is to take out
the SB Audigy card and put in an SB Live! Value card. I'd rather use
the Audigy 2 if I can, since it sounds much nicer.

Anyone know what could be the problem?

Perplexed and going NUTS,

JS

Followup: The latest drivers from Creative Labs (filename:
SBA2_EAX4DRV_031031.exe) have been installed and the problem has "gone
away". Go figure.

Followup^2:

OK, the problem went away for music in Windows Media Player, but when
I'm listening to .wav files in games, the popping STILL happens.

Sigh.

Anyone got any ideas???
