Is WS FTP OK for publishing an PF site?

I struggle to publish with FP publisher command. Can I not simply carry on
using WS FTP? Is it as good?

If you are publishing to a host that has the FP server extensions installed,
you must use the http publish. If they don't have them installled, you can
use WS FTP.
 
No. If your site uses FrontPage server extensions, you must publish using
FrontPage.

Why use WS-FTP? Just publish to ftp://<ftp site> instead of http://<web
site> and FrontPage will use FTP.
