Is Windows Server the way to go?

we currently have to servers, one IBM RS6000 running AIX Unix that has our
trucking and warehouse software, purchased in 2001, and an HP Vectra running
SCO Unix that has our old warehouse system. We will be turning off this
warehouse package hopefully in next two months and running the new warehouse
software on the IBM. The HP has been running non-stop since December 1997
and I am worried it will crash any day.
Also on the HP, we run as our network connection for the office network.
Somehow our guy at the time partitioned(?) it and it also stores all of our
"public" shared word, excel docs. It also connects us with in-house outlook
although I think it's some phony kind of pier to pier setup. There is no MS
office server software on it.

What I want to do ASAP is install a new server to handle the outlook link,
shared files, internet network, etc so if the HP does crash at least it
won't shut down the office network. I have only purchased Dell PC's the last
several years and mostly run XP or 2000. So what I am thinking is keep it
all in the family, consult with Dell and buy the proper server and software.

So, what should I be looking for as far as software? I.e. scheduling,
email/postoffice, fax server (I want to receive fax's to a PC and distribute
to individuals without printing. Most faxes are junk). What else should I be
thinking? Then I need to tie in several printers. I believe Dell offers
consulting for small business to design a setup. Is this the way to go? We
have been using a local network support place but my guy left the company
and I don't have much faith in them since.

Thanks you.

I'd say that you need expert help, so try Dell first, but
find out the costs. If you know of a reliable consulting
firm, try them too. Whatever route you take, it might be
quite expensive to even find out what you need. Make sure
that they keep costs down. Ask them what the risks are, both
inherent and if you were to cut down on the hardware specs.
When you do get the final report, question everything. If
they are any good, they will be pleased to explain.

Cheers,

Cliff
