Is Vista RTM actually a Beta release?

G

Guest

I was very pleased when Vista was released and impressed with its visual
interface improvements. However, considering the number of serious
"unworkable" issues that I personally am running into, not to mention the
number of issues that I haven't come across, I must ponder the question :
"Was Vista ready to be released or was released still in Beta form?". Who
can claim that Vista is ready for a professional production level
environment?

About half of the issues that I have seen are Microsoft's problem and the
other half have been the lack of effort by 3rd party software and device
driver developers who haven't prepared for Vista's release. Considering that
the Vista effort was 5 years in the making and had a budget greater than the
Manhattan Project, I am befuddled.

Windows Vista was rigorously tested and the final product runs just fine.
Unless you can intelligently express what issues you may be having,
there is no one in this Vista troubleshooting newsgroup that can help you out.

Thank you for your reply. However, I have posted a few of the more pressing
issues in their appropriate forums and received absoluletly no responses.

These are the first 2 posts I remember seeing from you. Why don't you post
the questions again. You ARE posting to the Microsoft news servers, right
(msnews.microsoft.com)?

If you post elsewhere (through your ISP newsgroups etc.) they may not be
seen here.

What's the problem Carey, you can't see the question asked ?

If I must refresh your memory, it was 'Is Vista RTM actually a Beta
release?'. That was the question.

Richard and Carey,

Thank you. My posts were in Networking and Security at this Community site
and also at the TechNet site.

Let's go ahead and delete this thread as there is nothing to gain from
negativity and hopefully "hook up" at the other threads or I will start a new
one here.

Can either Richard or Carey delete this thread?

Regards,

post the questions again. You ARE posting to the Microsoft news
servers, right (msnews.microsoft.com)?

IF you had looked at the headers, he is posting to thru the MS NNTP web
interface, which I would think should show up on the NNTP server.

The OP had also said he posted questions to the appropriate groups, so why
are you asking him to post again here, when people here complain this is a
'general' group, go post in a more appropriate group.

GG for the author will shows those posts in non-general groups.

Microsoft has never sold a "beta release" of any product.

Many people post elsewhere and the posts end up here. Tell me you have NOT
seen loads of incomplete posts that originate at eggheadcafe.com. and
elsewhere. It happens all the time. Then they wonder why there is a lack of
responses.

No, I don't look at every single header for every messages. Maybe you have
the time for that. I don't.

My suggestion was that if he were posting elsewhere he may want to post here
directly. He is posting here directly, so that is the end of it. He will
just have to wait until someone with expertise on the questions he posted
reads them, and has the inclination to answer.

Too bad YOU took offence.

Why were you befuddled? When was the last time MS produced an OS that
worked before SP1 or (more often) SP2? It baffles me not at all. Most MS
consultants have advised users to hold off until at least SP1.

Thanks Richard, Dan and Carey for your posts. However, I am sure we know we
are all working toward the same goal here and thus I am calling a treuce.
Otherwise, this thread will explode as I have seen it happen before ( NVIDIA
forums for example).

Furthermore, since this is my thread, I wish to request that it be deleted
as it is really not providing much service to Vista in its current state.

I hope to reconnect with the three of you in my other threads in Networking,
Security and possibly TechNet.

Regards all.

I already looked at your post in networking. I do not have the expertise to
answer that question.

Soory, Loop. Posts can not be deleted.

This is not a forum on the MS webpage. This is UseNet, a worldwide system
of peer-to-peer servers.

What you see at the MS Communities is a web interface to the Usenet system.

I never said anything to the contrary. The OP said he posted explicit
questions in the appropriate groups.
No, I don't look at every single header for every messages. Maybe you

Well, I can see how using an inferior MS product for reading newsgroups may
make looking at headers a complex affair, but with XNews, while looking at
the article pane, simply pressing 'h' toggles the display of all headers on
and off. The the time it takes to do this is about 500 ms. (Which of course
I only did because you had asked if he was posting directly to
msnews.microsoft.com.)

D

DanS

I already looked at your post in networking. I do not have the
expertise to answer that question.

Which is why the OP posted to the specialized groups, exactly as you would
have instructed them too.

XP and Vista were both beta when they were released. I have both up and
running without problems but it took a lot of effort and hours to get them
that way.......XP 5 years ago and Vista now. That's not the way it should be
for a finished product and I pity the computer illiterate people out there
buying new computers with Vista on it.

Win2003
WinXP

I put both into production long before their SP1 release as did many peers.
