is this really that difficult?

4 xp pro boxes on network (1 is wireless):
BARNETT-DESKTOP
BARNETT-LAPTOP (wireless)
SCAREFACE
FOREMAN

All i want to do is share certain folders on BARNETT-DESKTOP with only
BARNETT-LAPTOP. I do not want the other 2 computers to have access to
these folders.

I have read all posts here concerning this and many web pages claiming
step-by-step instructions. Obviously I have disabled simple-sharing.

Problem: In LOCATIONS in the USER/GROUPS dialog I cannot see any
networked computers besides the local BARNETT-DESKTOP. Therefore it is
impossible to choose permissions for BARNETT-LAPTOP.

Question: Is it possible to do what I want without using Windows
Server? If I need to join a domain, how do I go about doing that?

Thanks

Well yeah. In fact, in most small environment (home) WORKGROUP is the
way to go, not DOMAIN. Which box is your server/domain controller?

I don't have a server or domain set up. What do you suggest?

Ooookay.

Set up PC as workgroups. For simplicity give them all the same
workgroup.

Example:

BARNETT1 -
(user B1/B1pass has an account in this box)
add account B2/B2pass
(user B2 now has an account on this machine)
share resources accessible to user B2.

BARNET2 -
(user B2/B2pass has an account in this box)
add account B1/B1pass
(user B1 now has an account on this machine)
share resources accessible to user B1.

That should do it.
