The Old Timer

I've just had a screen jump up supposedly from Norton's telling me that
there is a problem with my antivirus program & that I should uninstall &
reinstall the program. Has anyone else heard of this happening or is it
just scam?

It would help if you would post the exact wording of the message. Did it
look like a message from a Norton product? Norton screens usually have the
yellow banner at the top and a logo identifying which product it originated
in.

Sounds very fishy to me. I cannot think of any reason a running program
would give such message.

Make sure you've run LiveUpdate to get the freshest virus signatures, run a
full scan. Then run the spyware removal tool(s) you prefer.

If it happens again, post full info on symantec.customerservice.general
where you might get a more knowledgable bunch of users.

Does the Norton Icon show that the program is running? I have had this
happen twice and both times Norton became disabled and the icon displayed as
disabled. The program experienced some sort of internal error and reinstall
fixed the issue.

BUT, Norton definitely was displayed as disabled.

Same exact thing happened to me as what happened to Kevin D. I had to
reinstall - twice.
