Is There Way to Change Displays Tab Setting Using Registry?

ATI Catalyst 5.5 has a "Displays" tab that lets you customize
characteristics of your monitor. On a Windows 2003 system,
this part of Catalyst is broken. The Displays tab will always
act as if no monitor is attached. I want to know where is the
place in the registry that I can set the maximum display
resolution for monitor 1 to 2048x1536?

On my "Displays" tab, none of the monitors show as connected.
As a result you cannot customize their properties. On my
system the Control Panel thinks the maximum resolution of my
monitor is 1600x1200. If I set desktop resolution to 2048x1536
(for example), ATI is mapping that to the 1600x1200 constraint
that it thinks exists on the monitor. I have to scroll around
the larger virtual desktop by moving it inside of the smaller
1600x1200 window. This effectively cripples a very power
monitor.

ATI has a great feature in Catalyst when you press the
Troubleshooting button on the Displays tab that lets you force
recognition of the TV. Why didn't it occur to ATI to on the
same dialog include an option to "Force recognition of display 1"
and "Force recognition of Display 2"?! This would immediately
solve my problem without having to resort to potentially
dangerous registry tweaks.

I find no way to force recognition of the monitor in Control
Panel. I find no way to change the Display settings. There
must be some way to do it using the registry directly.

There is a section in the registry named ati2mtag that seems to
hold all of the settings from the Catalyst panel. Can someone
guide me to which settings hold the "max resolution" and "max
refresh" Display settings for a selected monitor (each monitor
has its own registry section).
