Is there supposed to be an icon in the bottem right?

Hello,

I am running outllook 2003 w/ 3 POP accounts. I have a little icon that is
for outlook in the bottem right of my toolbar (I can't rememnber what that
place is called) when I close the program. It is where all the background
stuff that is running has icons. Anyway, is that outlook icon supposed to be
there? If I double click on it, it gives me and error message that says:

"Outlook is not respnding. If you are using an exchange server e-mail
accoutnt, you can cancel pending server requets by clicking the Outlook icon
in the notifications area, and then clicking Cancel Service Request on the
shortcut menu."

The thing is if I close it down in the processes of the Task Manager and try
and open it back up and then close it again, it doesn't stay down there
anymore. I also notice that I don't send/and recieve automatically anymore
after I do this. So why does it give me that error message? Is it supposed to
say and do that and in fact it is not and error maeeage?I just don't get why
they would put an icon in that place if you can't double click it to open it
or at lease do something with it. All the other icons down there do something
like that. I have had this problem for a while now and have posted before. I
thought I fixed it but I was incorrect. I am sure it is not my PDA sync, or
my Junk E-mail filter through Zone Alarm as I have turned both off and the
problem still exsits. Any help would be great! Thank you.

The Notification area of the System Tray.

Something is preventing Outlook from cloing. See if this helps:

It is supposed to be there only when you minimise Outlook if Outlook is
configured to use it. It should go when you close Outlook.
Refer here for reasons Outlook might remain open:

The message you see can be common with Outlook and POP accounts. It can be a
little unresponsive at times.
