Is there anyway to permanently allow the information bar to allow blocked content?

When previewing web pages I create in Explorer I get the message "Internet
Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content, etc". When I
set the security tab in Internet Options to low, it always resets to medium
when I restart Explorer. In other words, if I change the settings in
Security, they won't take. Is there anyway to permanently allow the
information bar to allow blocked content?

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Greg,

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the
Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list. Select the
Allow active content to run in files on My Computer check box, and then
click OK.

More information on that option (must read) - Local Machine Zone Lockdown:

Ramesh -

Thanks for the references, especially to the article on Local Machine Zone
Lockdown.

I often 'take notes' from web pages by copying text into an HTML editor.
(The old Front Page Express is great for this.) Besides text, I might
include URLs. The resulting .htm files appear to bring out the Information
Bar whenever I have included a URL. Since I created these .htm files, I was
thinking about allowing active content in the Local Machine zone, but then I
read this in the article on Local Machine Zone Lockdown:

"Unfortunately, attackers also try to take advantage of the Local Machine
zone to elevate their privileges and compromise a computer."

Yikes! Would you recommend that I maintain security settings in the Local
Machine zone equivalent to the Internet Zone?

Hi Modem,
Machine zone equivalent to the Internet Zone?

Yes. It's advisable not to disable the LMZ Lockdown, and follow the MOTW
option.
