No, it's pretty painless. Make a backup of your data first, uninstall any
antivirus software, and unplug everything but monitor/keyboard/mouse, and
you ought to be good to go.

Hi

What version and type of XP Pro CD have you got? Dependent on that:

if you have XP SP2 Home already installed, you will need to create a
slipstreamed XP Pro SP2 CD for the installation - or 'downgrade' to XP Pro
SP1/1a, then install SP2 later. If you have XP Home SP1/1a already
installed, you can upgrade to XP Pro, then install SP2 afterwards.

Yes, you can upgrade XP Home to Professional. There is no special
upgrade version just for this, but the regular XP Professional
Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't say so on the box).

But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home
and Professional are identical except that Professional includes
a few features (mostly related to security and networking)
missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use
these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.

Also note that there are no guarantees that it always works
perfectly. However unlikely, it's always possible that something
might go wrong. For that reason it's prudent to be sure you have
a backup of anything you can't afford to lose before beginning.

And you don't get the "Automated System Recovery" with XP Home ed. ,as I
found out the other day - and xp back-up with it's option to back-up the
"system-state" (nearly 500mb's on my machine!), doesn't get installed by
default with XP Home ed. , so I had to do it myself. ...although I don't
know why I was fiddling with it seeing as I regularly Ghost my drives into
folders on "opposite" hd's :-)

It is for work. So she could network two computers better.
The boss wants to to be able to access everything from both computers.
One computer will be a home computer upgraded to a pro.
Another computer will be a windows 98se computer

Is there any special license for two computer for a sort-of-non for
profit agency ? Microsoft Office and Maybe xp pro.

What is the name of the current version of Microsoft office that
includes all products? Access, Word, Publishers, Excel

I thinking about having her buy the compaq preinstalled computer at
wal-mart for $499 then have her upgrade to pro.

To others,
There is now a xp pro upgrade that includes sp2

Then this is almost certainly a good example of a situation in
which XP Professional provides *no* additional benefit.

It does not "network two computers better," and XP Home would
work fine. The only advantage of Professional with regard to
networking is that it permits joining a domain, which Home does
not. For just networking two computers together, both Home and
Professional will work identically.

Not as far as I know, but I'm not sure and could be wrong.

Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 comes with Word, Excel,
Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003 comes with Word,
Excel, Outlook, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, and
Publisher.

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 comes with Word,
Excel, Outlook, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, Publisher,
and PowerPoint.

As I said, Professional is almost certainly not necessary.

Shouldn't be provided you use one of the XP Pro upgrade CDs that
appearing in retail - with a red 'New - Security. . .' flash on the box.
Or one that has been made by 'slipstreaming' a complete SP2 file into an
earlier XP Pro CD (non OEM)

You run that from the present system, take Install, continue with
Upgrade. Be sure though to back up data first, just in case. And make
sure you *need* one of the facilities that are supported only in Pro;
aside from them the systems are identical
