Hi,
I understand that you are unable to install Quickbooks and Norton Ghost
software and the system displays error 1721.
Please try these two solutions and check if it resolves your issue.
Step 1
-----------------------
1. Turn on the computer, press the F8 key during the startup process, and
select Safe
Mode, and boot up.
2. Press Start and choose Run.
3. Type in cmd.exe and press OK.
4. In the command line, type in the following command and press Enter:
MSIexec /unregister
5. Then, type in the following command and press Enter:
MSIexec /regserver
6. Please try again.
If the issue still occurs, please perform the steps below.
Step 2
-----------------------
1. Click "Start", and then click "Run".
2. In the "Open" box, type "cmd" (without the quotation marks), and then
click
"OK".
3. At the command prompt, type "sfc /purgecache" (without the quotation
marks) and then press ENTER.
Note: This command may require access to the Windows installation source
files. You should receive the following message at the command prompt when
this command has completed:
Windows File Protection successfully made the requested change.
4. At the command prompt, type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotation
marks), and then press ENTER.
Note: This command will take several minutes to complete and may require
access to the Windows installation source files. After this command has
completed, type "exit" (without the quotation marks) to close the command
prompt.
5. Try to install this program again to test this issue

| I'd appreciate help from anyone here who might have seen

| I'm getting an error on attempts to install both
| Quickbooks 2003 Pro and Norton Ghost 2003 on a dual
| propcessor box with an ASUS PC-Dl Deluxe MB and 2 Xeon
| 2.4 g processors, Canterwood Chipset.

| I think it's a windows installer issue. It reports "Error
| 1721 The Remote Procedure Call Failed" and I can't see
| anywhere in the KB or FAQ herein that adresses this
| problem in XP I only see new Microsoft Installer for
| download for 98 / 2000.

| I'd be grateful for any suggestions anyone might offer.
