Is there a way to stop XP shutting down after you click on 'Shutdown'?

I don't suppose I am the only person who has clicked on the 'shutdown'
button only to remember I need to do something else before it happens?

Is there a way to stop the process?

I live in hope!

Hi Noel, you came late Christmas Gone!!!, I'm afraid you cannot, there is
the Esc button but you need to press this in a 5 secs time frame to get out
of the shutdown procedure and it is not guarantee it will work all the time,
sometimes it will sometimes it will not!.
What you mean by "only to remember I need to do something else before it
happens" do you mean saving your works/docs?, you can configure the Software
to save the work on exit or every minute or direct to a
folder/Storage/Drive..etc.
HTH.

I've trained myself not to click on the 'shutdown button' I have three
shortcuts on the desktop I click on instead.

Shortcuts to Shutdown, Restart or Abort.

Shutdown:
Target: -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -t 5 -s
Start in: -> C:\WINDOWS\system32

Restart:
Target: -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -t 5 -r
Start in: -> C:\WINDOWS\system32

Abort:
Target: -> C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -a
Start in: -> C:\WINDOWS\system32

In the above I am using default XP file locations.
The figure 5 represents 5 secs which can be varied, for example change to 9
to allow more time for you to abort.
I live in hope!

See if that works for you. ;-)

there is a command that we learned when the blaster worm virus came out..

start> run and you type shutdown -a

there must be a way to make a batch file and click it.. perhaps some other
guy can tell us
