Is there a way to see the history of dates a file was modified?

Is there a way to see the history of the dates a particular excel file
was modified? For example, if I go into My Documents and then open a
folder containing a single excel file, I am able to see the Date
Modified of 11/21/08. But is there a way to see when it was modified
prior to 11/21/08?

Hi,

There are three ways to do this, at least, some good other not so:

1. This is what SharePoint is all about, it tracks every user of the file
and when it was checked out and modified and by whom. It probably does more
but I'm not and expert in it.
2. If the file hase the Share Workbook feature turned on Excel will have
kept a history (you specify how long) of exactly who did what to which cells
and when. This may be far more detail than you need.
3. You could at least determine if a file was modified by looking back on
the server copies (backups) on a day by day basis. Probably an unacceptable
solution.
4. In the future you could write a macro the tracked who opened the file
and whether they save it.
