Is there a way to embed a swf file into the MAC version of PPT X

Have tried Insert, Insert Sounds and Movies, from file, select the swf file?

Many times. The program responds with a message that the file format isn't
recognized by Powerpoint
 
It can be embedded into the PC version pf PPT using the control toolbox and
plays just fine. It is controlled by ActivX on the PC, but Mac doesn't use
ActivX. Can't find anything equivalent to the Control Tookbox in the Mac
version. Can't even find a list of allowable movie formats for Mac, other
than the quicktime .mov format, which is too compressed and looks BAD.
 
When I've googled this, I found multiple referencing of "dropping" a swf
movie into PowerPoint easily on the MAC. I have to assume (always a risky
prospect) that they mean drag and drop. Have you tried that?
