is there a substring function in word merge

I have a merge field that is a 16 digit credit card number. I need to
display only the last 4 characters. How do i do that?
 
If you don't get an answer here, try posting in
microsoft.public.word.mailmerge.fields, where the merge experts hang out.

You need to pre-process the data in the data source so that you pass only
the data you want to use to mail merge.
