Is the P4P800 Deluxe fussy about memory?

I am setting up a new system and am having no joy with my 2x256 MB unbranded
2100 DDR which previously worked with my ASUS P4B266 board. Could this be
why I'm not getting a display or is the board faulty? The P4P800 Deluxe LED
light is on, the P4 3.0GHZ CPU fan is whirling - where does the blame lie? I
am using an old ATI PCI card for testing purposes since my old AGP card
doesn't fit the new board. This isn't one of those horrible boards where you
have to test with AGP cards is it?

Do you have headphones or amplified speakers connected to the lime
colored connector on the back of the computer ? Listen for any
voice POST messages that come out there. Since the messages will be
garbled, compare what you are hearing, to the table of messages
listed in the manual.

You can also try just one stick of memory, if you want. The 875/865
chipsets can operate in single channel mode.

Oh, do you have the 2x2 +12V power connector plugged in from
your ATX power supply ? The processor draws power exclusively
from that connector, while other +12V loads are supplied from the
20 pin ATX connector. Some older power supplies don't have this
"P4" power connector. She won't POST without it :)

At the risk of giving insult:

A P4 3.0 is an 800 MHz FSB (front side bus) CPU, and normally wants PC3200
(DDR400) memory. You're running with PC2100 (DDR266) memory. Unless you
choose a memory multiplier below 1:1, the RAM may not operate at the higher
frequency. The P4P800D BIOS permits you to select lower frequencies for the
RAM, with some loss in performance. That ought to permit you to use you old
RAM for the moment.

I've never used a PCI graphics card with my P4P800 (not a deluxe), but I'd
be very surprised if it required an AGP graphics card to boot.

Hi: I have 2 512 meg sticks of PNY Verto PC3500 DDR 433 in my P4P800 board.
No problems, much headroom. 2.6ghz 800mhz P4. Overclocked it to 3.05 but
then backed off. Why bother - this thing is crazy fast as it is. Picked up
an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro a week ago at Best Buy $199. (249 with a 50 mir)
Great combo. You can chooe what order video card to choose from in the
bios. AGP/PCI or PCI/AGP. Buy some faster ram and a good AGP based video
card. You are really missing out on the bandwidth capabilites of the P4P
mainboard. Good luck.
