Is the new power point compatible with the old one

i have to do a presentation on power point at schoo, i have the new power
point buit the school hase the old one and im not sure if it will work

There are actually four versions in use, and even a fifth by a few users. You
would have to tell us which version is at home and which is at school. They are
PowerPoint 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003.

Knowing what versions you are working with would be helpful. However, another
alternative is to play it safe by using the oldest format available. If your
presentation does not use many advanced or newer features (such as animation,
sound, etc.) you may be able to save it in PowerPoint 95 format.

Start by doing a “Save As†and under the “Save as type†dropdown choose
“PowerPoint 96 (*.ppt)â€. This format should be compatible with older
versions. But remember, many advanced features and some fonts may not show
properly.

If you are using PowerPoint 2003 you may get around the font problem by
selecting “Toolsâ€, then “Options†and on the “Save†tab select “Embed True
Type Fonts†and click “Embed characters in use only (best for reducing file
size.)â€

By all means, you will want to try this out at least one day prior to your
presentation.

It's not a good idea to "save as PowerPoint 95" unless you know for sure that it
must be playable in PowerPoint 95. PowerPoint 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 all share
the same newer file format. Saving as PowerPoint 95 actually saves the
presentation for the newer versions and for PowerPoint 95 all in the same file,
and because PowerPoint 95 didn't do compression, the resulting file will be
huge.
