Is the network possible

Hi, I'll give as much info as possible to getthe right advice. I have a
wireless router. I can connect to the internet with the desktop ( wired into
the router ) and the laptop which is connecting to the router wirelessly.
Both computers are xp home. I have shared files on both computers. I cannot
see one computer's shared files from the other and I think I know why. When I
go into the router, one computer has a domain name like mshome, the laptop
says unknown. I can change the workgroup but not the domain with xp home ( so
I've heard ). So the big question becomes can I share files between these 2
computers or not. One more thing, the laptop does not connect to the internet
through the desktop, and I'd like to keep it that way if possible. Appreciate
any help as I've searched the internet for 2 weeks on how to do this. Thanks
