Is the Adaptec USBXchange Adapter supposed to work with XP?

I have been trying to follow the instructions on the Adaptec site for
getting this to work with a jaz drive

The whole thing seems to work and connect and install its drivers and
read the disc and try to open in Windows Explorer.

But at that stage, the whole thing stops working and XP suddenly
reports that it cant see its E drive

Anyone got any ideas on this one please? Or have the newest security
updates killed the drivers?

According to Adaptec's web site, the adapter isn't supported on MacOS X.

What are you trying to accomplish with MacOS?

I am trying to get old data off the Jaz cartridges which I have so
that I can throw away the drive and the cartridges. I was wondering
whether there was a workaround for Lion or SL which would let me use
it as a more direct alternative to using it in a PC or VM. I am
certainly hoping that I don't have to install 98SE in its own VM to do
just this!

Would a Jaz Traveller adaptor & 50HD - 25D converter be of any use to
you for this task?. It adapts the Jaz to a parallel port. I have one
that I don't need since I don't have a Jaz drive or disks.

Not enriely sure what it is but thank you for the offer: What I am
trying to do is to get my device working or install 98SE in a VM on
the mac which I suppose will achieve what i am trying to do.

It's an adapter that allows the SCSI connector on a Jaz to be connected
to a standard PC parallel port. If you don't have a PC, then this may
not help you as Macs don't use a standard PC parallel port.
On that note, have you tried using it on a SCSI port on a Mac? The Mac
OS may have suitable inbuilt drivers.

Thanks anyway but I seem to remember throwing away all my parallel
cables some years ago when no computer I had left had any such port:
The Mac hasnt used SCSI for years either!

The mac hasnt came with SCSI native for years but it is fully supported by all
versions of Mac OS X

Well, not quite. Retrospect would cause MacOS 10.3 to Kernel Panic when
I backed up to a SCSI tape drive. The Adaptec SCSI driver that's part
of MacOS X has probably been languishing ever since. I pulled my
Adaptec 2930u SCSI PCI card out of my G4 because it caused to many
problem.

So, it's native but I don't know if it's even ported to Intel.
