Is this a question about Microsoft Access? Are you asking if you can use
Access 97 to run an Access 2000 database? (No -- the older Access doesn't
understand the newer Access)

no, but, the a2000 user can convert the mdb to access 97.

As long as I can remember, you as a rule can go forward, but not
backwards!!!

So, you can actually run 20 year old software on a brand new windows xp box.
In fact, you can run the original 1981 spreadsheet (visi-calc) on a new
machine. However, you can't run the new version of office on a 10 year old
box!!!

So, have the a2000 user convert the mdb file to access 97. Note that any
features used in a2000 that don't exist in a97 would of course not work.....

Have the a2000 user convert:
go tools->database utilities->convert database->

Note that in a office, you can actually have a multiple users running
different versions of ms-access, and they can all share the same data at the
same time. In this case, you would leave the back end data in 97, and then
distribute a 97, or a2000 front end appcation to the respective users. You
will need to split the application if you plan to do this. How is explained

Ok, the Problem that I have is because I have Windows 95 with Office 97 in a
old computer with a Program used to Create & Design Pattern,and it has a Key
that only works in that computer, we are in process to Update our Program in
another Engineering Work Station, but as its cost is over $20,000 dls, we are
using the old computer meanwhile.

the DB was created with Office 2000 and is running in a Shared drive, so I
can't converted to Office97.

You are mistaken. If it was created in Office 2000, it *CAN* be
converted to Access97. You would make a separate database for use with
the A97 application, if there are other users continuing to use it
with A2000 - but (unless the database contains new features not
available in A97, such as Conditional Formatting), there's no reason
you can't convert it.
