Is newegg spamming now?

S

Sal Monella

I just got a promotional e-mail from newegg (read spam). I'm wondering
if this was a joe job or something because newegg use to have a very
good privacy policy and never sent this sort of e-mail without
permission. Anyone else get this?

Yep and when I tried to unsubscribe, I received an error message

Since I have my own domain, when I ordered from them (as well as anyone
online), I created a dedicated email alias for them in case this
happened as well as track the sources of spam. I deleted that email
alias as soon as I received the error message. :-/

I got the spam too. Got the unsubscribe error too.

I try to follow the Boulder Pledge, so whenever there's a reasonable
alternative, I'll be buying elsewhere.

You guys sure get your feathers ruffled easily. Spam is spam, but I don't
think a great company that you've done business with in the past letting you
know "once" that they've improved their site is considered spam. Of course,
I'm crazy enough to sign up for their newsletter too. Egads!!

It's even worse than just spam. They violated several specific points of
their own privacy policy. So not only have they become spammers, they
are lying about it as well. They just lost a lot of business from me.

Did you try complaining directly to New Egg?

I don't recall the details, but they spammed me somehow quite a while
back (maybe a year and a half?). I think it was that I put my address
on their list and then started getting spam from elsewhere. Something
like that. I complained, and I expect other people did too, because it
stopped to my satisfaction.

Probably they have a short memory or they have some recent hires who
don't have good sense. I expect they will knock it off if they get a
few complaints.

I just got it. Didn't pay much attention to it other than the purpose of
it seemed to be to let you know they have revised their website, which I
already knew since I go there at least once a day. I think this is the
first I've had from them and I couldn't care less as long as it doesn't
get out of hand. At least I know what it is, unlike the other crap that
comes through where I haven't done business with them.

I got it too, but I didn't think it violated any privacy or trust issues.
It's not like they gave my address to another company or something.

If the only e-mail I ever got was from companies I actually do business
with, my spam filter wouldn't look like the NFL rulebook :)

Even if it kinda hurts you if you liked reading relevant info,
whenever I receive stuff from sites (newegg) and others that I don't
want or didn't sign up for, I block their email address instead of
unsubscribing cause well, you just saw why. At any rate,
www.zipzoomfly.com has never spammed me, has never bothered me at
all, and they have excellent prices and services, this oppinion is
based on 5 separate buying occasions, check them out, they aren't as
extensive as newegg but if they've got the product you want they'll
probabily be under neweggs price... at least in my experiences.

breath deep and try and relax................1 message from a company
that we do business with is hardly spam. Think about this....blah blah
blah.....this spam entitles you to an extra 10% off you next
order..... what's that(hand to ear) no complaints now.

I'm plenty relaxed, but I'm disappointed in what I thought was a good
company. Their privacy policy states that they will not send you any
e-mail if you haven't asked for it. It also states that they will not
use any third party to send promotional e-mail. They broke both of those
promises in one e-mail. I don't do business with spammers or liars. Oh
well, there are plenty of other parts dealers to work with.

you are far from relaxed if you feel a need to rant about (1) one
single email....by all means find refuge elsewhere

That was nowhere near a "rant" and one single email is not the point.
The point is a formerly respected company breaking all the promises made
in their privacy policy and joining the ranks of low life spammers. I
actually didn't believe it at first but the discussion here has verified
it. It's newegg's loss because I was a very good customer for a very
long time. You obviously haven't dealt with much spam top poster.

heh ok NG nazi bottom poster. what's next a spell check?......a rant

I thought the privacy policy stated they won't give your e-mail address
to anyone else, NOT that they won't themselves use it.

If that's true than those penis enlargement spam's must really send you over
the edge....I'll be sure to order double to make up for your "loss" of
business.
