Hello everybody.

Just got a new PC with SATA (my first system with SATA support).
The harddisk is partitioned in two units. Have it correctly connected
with the SATA cable.

But now my question is: "is there any way of checking / seeing if it is
really running in SATA mode? Or if it is connect the right way?" I´ve
checked the system manager in the control panel and it says that the
disk is connected to IDE-Channel 1. That doesn´t necessarily mean that
it is in IDE mode?

thanks for any help.

If it's connected with an IDE (Parallel ATA) cable to an IDE slot on your
motherboard then it's a good bet it's running as IDE rather than SATA. SATA
(Serial ATA) cables are generally much thinner and have smaller connectors.

S-ATA connectors are now on so many different motherboards
with different bioses that it is difficult to discern what one
manufacturer means versus another. Re-post this question in a
newsgroup or forum of the particular motherboard maker for a
more specific answer. What "IDE-Channel 1" means to one maker
may be different to another. The only common part is that S-ATA
drives are basically IDE drives with electronics and pin-outs
for S-ATA.

Fries:
If you've correctly installed your SATA HD to the motherboard's SATA
connector - as I'm sure you have - the HD is operating with a SATA
interface. In Device Manager (I guess that's what you meant by "system
manager") a SATA HD will frequently be reflected as a SCSI device. In still
others - as in your situation - Device Manager will indicate the SATA HD is
connected to an IDE channel. Just ignore it.

In my CMOS setup the lineup is as follows, both boxes:

IDE Channel 0 Master DVD-ROM
IDE Channel 0 Slave None
IDE Channel 1 Master CDRW
IDE Channel 1 Slave None
IDE Channel 2 Master S_ATA1-HD
IDE Channel 3 Master None
